A down on his luck heavy metal guitarist hasn't gotten very far with his songs about elves and wizards and dark magic. Let's see how he does with the real thing.
Short Summary
1976. Chicago.
On the surface, Chicago is a bustling, major metropolitan landscape. People root for the Bears, fight the commute to work, and complain about the weather. Richard Daley, whose political grip extends well beyond Chicago, and throughout the state, is in his twenty-third (and final) year as mayor of the city.
What no one realizes is that far below the city, there exists a seal that, if unlocked, would unleash a torrent of dark magic powerful enough to bring about the destruction of the civilized world. For eons, a small group of seemingly immortal wizards have been keeping a dark magic at bay… protecting the unsuspecting human populace from what the Wizards believe is their doom. With the help of elves, who are adept at crafting seals to keep the seeping dark magic at bay, they have managed to keep an oblivious human race safe since the dawn of recorded time. That seeping dark magic emanates from different physical sites throughout the world. One example of that dark magic getting loose is Pompei. Nearly every major natural disaster in “recorded history” can be attributed to a dark magic leak. United… the wizards can stop these leaks with the help of the elvish crafters who can create dark magic seals. But divided? It is a different story. And divided they have become. Wizards are immortal…naturally. But they can be killed by magic. This brings in Crafters and Barbarians. A crafter, unlike an elf, makes magic based weapons. They have normal lifespans, and they need years to learn, always being taught by wizards. Barbarians have long lifespans. They are latent, until their strength is triggered by an event. Barbarians can wield magic weapons created by crafters. These weapons can defeat magic based beings. Finally, dark magic mutates the animals of the world… creating monsters. Nearly every myth of a monster in this world, (Loc Ness, Bigfoot, The Abominable Snowman, etc.…) can be attributed to a dark magic event. Wizards and Barbarians with magic weapons can defeat these monsters. Now onto the wizards. In the beginning, all wizards were united in the struggle to protect this world. These days? Not so much. Over the eons, some wizards have abandoned the altruistic practice of keeping the dark magic at bay. This has created a long battle over the centuries, leaving only two wizards. (We will tell some of their history of conflict through flashbacks to Morgana Vs. Merlin) And now, in 1976…one seal… in Chicago Illinois… has come to a perfect storm of occurrences to bring about the end of the world. And the only chance there is to stop this destruction is an offbeat wizard, a heavy metal guitarist who has no idea he is a barbarian, a dedicated maker… and some elves… who haven’t been treated very well by mankind. The last Dark Wizard has a plan. It has taken decades. It involves crooked Chicago politics, nuclear energy, dark mutated monsters, and a dedication to chaos.
